Song of Solomon 2:11-12 (New International Version) “See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.”
Spring time is a favourite season. It is a sign of new beginning. The depressing cold of winter is almost over and new life is about to burst forth. It is a time of wonder and awe as we see what look like dead sticks produce the most amazing flowers and leaves that only God could design. All different shapes, sizes and colours. Animals and birds reproduce themselves in almost exact replicas. The earth produces the extra food required to supply the extra demand. Gods creation is truly awesome.
When a person gives up their old life and decides to follow Jesus it is very like coming out of a bad winter into the spring time. A new life has begun. A thing of beauty is created from what was, as it were, a dead stick. But the “spring time” is not necessarily an instant happening, it can be a gradual process. Just like the change from winter doesn’t just happen overnight. For some time the winter tries to take over again being cold one day and hot the next. Finally the warmth of the sun takes over, the summer arrives and the trees start to produce fruit after their kind.
Psalm 1:3 In this verse, a righteous person is compared to a tree. They will both produce fruit in their “season” or “at the right time.”
