Compassionate Outreach
Read Exodus 6:6-12, especially verse 9: “Moses spoke thus to the people of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses, because of their broken spirit and harsh slavery.”
Moses had a promise of deliverance for the Israelites but instead of receiving it enthusiastically, they could not hear it through the cruel circumstances in which they were living ; their broken spirit and cruel bondage. If the chosen people of God who had previously known God’s goodness and provision were like this, how much more will other oppressed peoples of the world be unable to respond to gospel preaching alone.
John Osborne told us recently of the creative ways our missionaries, out of true compassion, are meeting the needs of people by providing work opportunities in meaningful businesses such as weaving fabrics and scarves, making bed-coverings from used saris, sewing clothing, leather and jute bag making, establishing coffee farms etc and all the while providing counselling, gospel teaching and pure love to lead these folk to freedom in God. Google “Marketplacers” to see more about these businesses and make a purchase if you wish.
“Father God, may Jesus’ compassion flood our hearts so we can find the will to help the less fortunate ones of your world however we can.”
