The Power of a Word

When Jesus speaks to us today our spirits leap in excitement. To hear His precious voice leading and guiding us is so special. There is more power in one word from Jesus than all the power of the enemy.

Words spoken to us can stay in our memory. We can be thinking of nothing in particular and out of the blue a word said to us in the past can either remind us of something encouraging and uplifting, that made us feel good, filled us with hope and love, or a critical hash word can have the ability to hit us with the old feelings we felt when the word was spoken. Hurt, anger and discouragement can fill our hearts. Although as Christians we have dealt with the past the spoken word can still come back to trip us up. We can become undone by these old words.

The Bible teaches us in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. This is something we must learn to do or we will continually be struggling with the past. Ask the Lord to give us the ability to recognize when this happens and He will teach us how to overcome.

Father we may speak a word that discourages

Giving our own opinions and advice Without taking the time to understand each other

Father, I pray you’ll speak through us With words that truly uplift Words that always encourage

And hearts willing to forgive
