God Knows Our Names
Have you ever wanted to change your name or
wondered what you would be like without a name.
Our names are important and it is by our names that
other people identify us and we identify ourselves.
In the Bible, parents gave their children names with
meanings such as strong, trustworthy and leader, in
the hope they would take on these traits when they
grew up. Ecclesiastes 7:1 says: “A good name is
better than fine perfume.”
One of the names we all know well is the name
Jesus and we often sing “at the name of Jesus
every knee shall bow”…. Jesus has many names,
Saviour, Provider, Comforter, Redeemer, Prince of
Peace, Immanuel, King of Kings, Lord of Lords and
I am sure you know more.
As believers we are taken into the Kingdom of God.
We are given a new identity, a new name and a life
full of possibilities. We are called children of God.
No matter what our past is and regardless of our
many mistakes, the Lord knows our name and
desires our worship and praise.
As sons or daughters of the King of Kings, there are
many reasons we should praise Him. He does not
change. He is mightier than any problem we might
face. He is all wise and loving and will never
leave us. He is our hope. So whether we like the
name or nicknames we have been given by our
parents we can find joy in knowing that we are
called by God and that our names are written on the
palms of His hands. (Isaiah 49:16).
