Words of Farewell

Another First

When we look back over our lives we see so many “firsts”. Our first day at school, our first job, when we got married, our first child, our first overseas trip, those things we had never experienced before which often were marked with big changes. I am about to experience another first and that will be the first time I have not been employed in 51 years. It’s a strange feeling to step down from being a pastor after 43 years [47 including my training]. I have to say that I am looking forward to a good break and a different pace of life.

Looking back over the last 43 years I can say that it hasn’t been easy, but Jesus never said it would be. There have been times when I felt like giving up, but I am so glad I kept going because I believe I am richer for it. Along with the tough times there have been so many wonderful times, but what blesses me the most is to see people come to Christ and then go on to spiritual maturity. I have come across many people whom I have known in the early days of their Christian lives and been so encouraged to see how they have grown, developed and matured as believers. Many of these have contacted me through Facebook and shared their ongoing story.

We get so excited when we see people come to Christ, but that is only the beginning. It’s not so much about how we begin, but how we continue and finish and the challenge to us all is to keep growing, developing, learning changing and maturing until the Lord calls us home.

As I enter this new phase of life, I pray that God will continue to use me in whatever capacity He sees fit. Lois and I will continue in the church here and pray for you folk as you have prayed for us.

God bless you all too and thank you so much for allowing us to be part of your lives over these last 9 years.

Love from Geoff and Lois Follas
