Temptation
We are easy prey for temptation when we do not consciously work at our relationship with Christ. When we don’t spend time daily reading the Bible and praying, it’s like going into a battle zone without any protection. Because we are not consciously seeking to keep close to Jesus and spending time daily listening to Him, other voices become a lot stronger. We listen more readily to the selfish, deceitful, desires within ourselves. James says, “Each one is tempted when they are drawn away by their own [particular] desires and enticed.” The Bible calls that the flesh. The voices coming at us from the godless world around us have greater attraction, and Satan capitalises on this as well – speaking his subtle lies into our minds – making us justify what he wants us to do. You have vulnerable areas, which if not disciplined by commitment and character, have the ability to destroy you. “What can I do?” you ask. When Jehoshaphat came up against an enemy too big to handle alone, he prayed, “We have no power against this great multitude… We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You” ( 2 Chronicles 20:12 NKJV). Jehoshaphat understood three things: (a) He knew that in his own strength he was no match for this enemy; (b) He was humble enough to acknowledge it and reach for help; (c) He knew where to turn – “our eyes are upon You.” What’s the secret of victory? Keep focussed on Jesus, not on yourself or the temptation! Understand this: the battle is always over your future. The issue is not just you – it’s about those God plans to bless through you! Each day put on the armour of God and stay close to you Commander.
