In the last 60 years we have watched the moral and spiritual decline in our nation, and it seems to be continuing at a faster pace today. How are we as believers to respond to this post Christian society?
- Paul says we are not to judge the people of this world. As Jesus said on the cross, “They know not what they do.” “Satan, the god of this world has blinded their eyes to prevent them from seeing the truth.”
- We are to accept them as they are, but show by our loving attitudes and serving hearts that there is a better way. I get such a blessing from showing kindness and practical help to unbelievers and then letting them know I am a follower of Jesus.
- We need to remember that Jesus predicted things would get worse as we approach the end. Here is the challenge. As the moral and spiritual environment gets darker, it’s a great opportunity to shine our light even brighter. Remember Jesus words in Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
- We need to pray that God’s Spirit will work in the hearts and minds of the people around us and prepare them for an encounter with those of us who carry Jesus around in our hearts. I met a lady in distress last week in a car park and I was able to help her. She said she was so glad I turned up when she needed help and I said, “I believe God organised this.” We may not be able to transform all of society but we can make a difference for this one and that one. We can all shine our lights in the darkening world.
