In 2 Corinthians 11:3 Paul wrote, “I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from the simple, uncomplicated and pure devotion to Jesus.”

Have you noticed how complex and pressurised life has become? Modern man has created a system that constantly places pressure on us to buy certain products, to achieve certain goals, to project a certain image. Most people are so caught up in the mad scramble to meet these expectations that they don’t even question the sense of it all. It is ingrained into our children from a very young age that they have to wear certain products, present themselves in a certain way and conform to a certain image if they are to be accepted.

Even the simple Christmas message has become almost lost in all the modern trappings society, business and culture have added. People are under so much pressure that few have time to sit quietly this Christmas and contemplate that simple and yet deeply profound message of God Almighty entering a human body and entering human history in order to rescue us from the destruction caused by our sin.

Let’s not get sucked into the mad, frantic, complicated rush of commercial Christmas. Let’s take time this Christmas to stop and reflect on the wonder and the glory of what God did that first Christmas and, like the shepherds, kneel in awe and worship. Keep it simple and have a blessed Christmas.
