Devotional Thoughts from Jeremiah:

For over a year I have been slowly reading through the book of Jeremiah, all the 52 chapters! It is full of God’s striving with man and man’s rejection of His way. God, through Babylon, delivered the punishment to His wayward people.

Jeremiah remains faithful in delivering, even with the threat of death, “this is what the Lord says”…. but the people seldom listened or obeyed. God used other nations to exert punishment, rather than intervening directly Himself.

God promises in Chapter 29 that after 70 years of exile in Babylon “I will come to you and fulfil my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Application to us today:

  • God is utterly faithful.
  • He never stops loving His people.
  • His promises are fulfilled, with divinely appointed timing.

Our response, in obedience, is to proactively follow the plan He has for our lives, trusting Him for the future.
