JUST THREE TEMPTATIONS TO OVERCOME!
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world
the desires of the flesh,
the desires of the eyes,
and the pride of life
is not from the Father but from the world. The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God remains forever” (1 John 2:15-17)
Jesus was tempted in these same three areas (Luke 4:1-13), and we are too –
desires to Indulge,
desires to Possess,
and desires to Impress.
Or, as someone has said, the 3Gs –
the Girls (or Guys)
and the Glory.
Thankfully, “we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:15,16)
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
And when we fail, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
