Friends
Who is our best friend? My best friends are those who choose to stand up for me no matter what the circumstances are. In Exodus 17 Moses needed Joshua, Aaron and Hur. Joshua fought for Moses; Aaron and Hur supported Moses by holding his arms up after he was exhausted. Prior to that, Moses at times let his arms down and the Israelites began to lose the battle. With Aaron & Hur’s support and encouragement, Moses was able then to hold his staff throughout the fighting and the battle was won.
Why are my friends, my best friends? They take time to get to know me – my good traits, my faults and even push through my shyness!!! They encourage me and support me. We can all have friends like this.
How are they our best friends? They offer help in practical and personal ways; pray for us; listen to us and laugh with us. This week, two of my very close friends have come on board when I needed someone to help. I felt I was in over my head and they had the knowledge for that situation.
God puts friends and family around us; God knows and meets all of our needs and as we commit ourselves to God as Moses did, we can trust Him to give us the best friends we need for a season or for a lifetime.
Have you ever cried out, “God help me!”? When we have Jesus in our lives, we can be certain that He is sufficient for us. Just think of a time when you felt out of control and one of your close friends suddenly rang or appeared at your door with just the right answer or help.
You and I can thank God for His faithfulness, His everlasting love and that our very best friend never lets us go.
