CASTING OUR CARES UPON THE LORD

I Peter 5 verse 7: (KJV) “casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you“.

How many of us follow Peter’s advice when he speaks of “casting our cares (or worries) upon the Lord”. Probably most of us pray about major problems or major decisions that have to be made, but Peter speaks of casting all our cares upon him. If we followed Peter’s advice, casting our cares upon the Lord, the “cares of this life” could result in a strengthening of our relationship with our Heavenly Father, rather than proving a hindrance, as they were in the Parable of the Sower.

Why do we find it so hard to cast all our cares upon God? Pride perhaps, most of us like to feel we can handle whatever problems come our way. Or maybe we feel our problems are too unimportant, to pray about to God. Whatever is important to us however, is important to God, and time spent with God will build up and strengthen our relationship with Him

It requires faith and trust to cast our cares upon the Lord. Faith that he will hear us, and trust that he will respond. There is one more word closely allied with faith and trust, and that word is “peace”. In Philippians 4 verses 6 and 7, Paul writes:

Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all under-standing, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Casting all our cares upon the Lord, would seem to be a first step, towards having the peace that passes all under-standing.
