I am a great fan of Richard Evans, author of the wonderful books called “The Christmas Box Collection” and also the inspiration series of books called “Walk”. While browsing on Facebook I came across an article in the New York Times, written by Richard simply titled “How I Saved My Marriage”.
The article starts with his daughter Jenna saying that her greatest fear as a child was that her parents would divorce. All she remembered was the fighting, she then added with a smile, “I am glad you guys figured things out”.
Richard goes on to explain that as he encountered “fame and fortune”, his marriage exacerbated their problems. While on a book tour and after an argument on the phone with his wife, he asked himself; “Why couldn’t we get along? Why had I married someone so different to me? Why wouldn’t “she” change?”
This was my favourite part of the article, he is yelling at God in the shower of the Atlanta Ritz-Carlton when hoarse and broken he sat down and began to cry. In his depths of despair a powerful inspiration came to him “You can’t change her, Rick. You can only change yourself”.
I challenge each of you to read the rest of the article. The link is www.richardpaulevans.com/index.php/2015/02/09/saved-marriage/
Take what Richard says and put it into practice, not only in marriage, but in all parts of your lives. You will be amazed….
