When the compass was discovered, sailors thought their navigation problems were solved, until they found that the magnetic North Pole was not the same as the true North Pole and they had to make adjustments.

Not long ago they found that the magnetic North Pole was moving all the time and has wandered all over the Arctic Circle. What is magnetically North now was not 10 years ago.

The moral and ethical standards of our culture are like the magnetic north pole – constantly changing, but God’s truth is like the True North, fixed, final and unchanging. If we allow the moral and ethical values of our culture to guide our thinking and behaviour we are in danger of straying off course and losing our way altogether.

In this day of moral confusion and spiritual deception, lots of things sound and look feasible and okay, but if they don’t clearly line up with God’s truth, don’t have a bar of them.

Hebrews 10:23 “We must continue to hold firmly to our declaration of faith, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.”
